A Worthwhile Wine Tasting

"Nothing is so effective in keeping one young and full of lust as a discriminating palate thoroughly satisfied at least once a day."

A few work colleagues and I decided to support a good cause back in South Africa last night by attending a wine tasting at Vivat Bacchus and sample some of the best wines the Cape has to offer. Not that one needs a reason to drink wine, but when it's in aid of Sikhule Sonke, an organisation based in Khayalitsha township, helping to educate young children in South Africa (www.sikhulasonke.org.za), it makes you feel rather a lot better about the whole thing. So much so, that I ended up bidding on a few wines and ended up with a 2003 Jordan Cab Sav for £50. Maybe the fact that the auction was held after the wine tasting had something to do with it, but I nevertheless have a rather good bottle of SA wine for a special occassion.

Koblenz in the Rhine valley

Just a quick note, as March is already running away with me. Had fabulous weekend at the end of February (23-25 Feb 2007) in Koblenz in the Rhine Valley. I met Tristan in Dusseldorf and we hopped on a train destined for Koblenz. It was a relatively chilled weekend, with much time spent strolling along the Rhine, finding local cafes and restaurants to savour some of the not so local fare and squeezing in some shopping. I am now the proud owner of German Kitchen knives! The change in pace and the catch ups over a few bottles of wine were exactly what I needed. And the spring blossoms peeping out let me know that Spring is officially on it's way.
